Taylor Hall scored the tying goal with 13:44 left and added an assist as the visiting Chicago Blackhawks snapped a season-worst five-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday night.
Outscored 21-10 during their skid, the Blackhawks gave interim coach Anders Sorensen his first win in two games since replacing Luke Richardson on Thursday. Chicago also snapped a six-game losing streak at home (0-5-1) and earned its fourth win in 15 games (4-10-1).
Tyler Bertuzzi also scored for the Blackhawks, who won for just the second time in 19 games this season when they scored two goals or fewer.
Chicago goaltender Arvid Soderblom made 29 saves a day after Petr Mrazek went on injured reserve with a groin injury. Soderblom highlighted his ninth career win (and second this season) with a left skate save on Artemi Panarin during a New York power play in the second.
Red Wings 6, Sabers 5 (SO)
Lucas Raymond had a goal and an assist and also scored in penalty kicks as visiting Detroit snapped a five-game losing streak past slumping Buffalo.
Andrew Copp had two goals and Moritz Seider had a goal and an assist. Detroit goaltender Sebastian Cosa, the 15th overall pick in the 2021 draft, recorded the win in relief while making his NHL debut.
The Red Wings entered the game 0-3-2. Jason Zucker had two goals and an assist for Buffalo, which has lost seven straight (0-4-3).
Canadiens 3, Ducks 2 (SO)
Patrick Laine recorded a goal and an assist in regulation before host Montreal won on penalties against Anaheim.
Kirby Dach also scored and Sam Montembeault made 27 saves, including four in overtime, for the Canadiens, who improved to 3-1-0 in their five-game homestand.
Troy Terry scored both goals and Lucas Dostal made 19 saves for the Ducks, who lost for the sixth time in their last eight games (2-4-2). Lane and Cole Caufield scored in the shootout for Montreal, while Terry and Mason McTavish failed to find the back of the net for Anaheim.
